Stock Z32 wheels are cast... so if I can show that a stock wheel that was subjected to similar stresses didn't break apart, that would prove my statement as you're requesting. Well it just so happens that I have real-world experience with exactly that, so here's the story. When I wrecked my red Z, it was basically a highway spin-out that ultimately went over a median, where the damage was sustained. The median's curb was at least 6" high, more likely 8" or so... and I know this not only from having seen the curb, but from the fact that it was tall enough to tear the front fascia off my car and dent both intercoolers. I'd hope that we can agree that this was a substantial curb to hit. Well I hit it at over 70mph (probably closer to 80mph, but it's hard to watch the speedo when you're busy trying to regain control). I believe my wheels were turned to the right at impact in my attempt to correct the slide. The stock wheels did not crack. Not a single one of them. All four of them had dents on the rim that were deemed repairable. Since you want pics, when I'm off work I'll dig through my external hard drive and see if I saved the pics of the wheels after the accident.
I love elitists who aren't really elite in any way... they amuse me greatly. |
